PRÓLOGO: El bautizo
El rey Florestán XXIV y la reina han invitado a todas las hadas al bautizo de su hija, la princesa Aurora, para que sean sus madrinas. Mientras llegan con obsequios para el bebé, son interrumpidas por la presencia de Carabosse, el hada malvada. Está enfadada por no haber sido invitada y le regala a Aurora un huso, anunciando que un día la princesa se pinchará un dedo con él y morirá. El Hada de las Lilas, que aún tiene que ofrecer su regalo, promete que Aurora no morirá, sino que en un profundo sueño del cual será despertada por el beso de un príncipe.
